Matthew Barrera Caleb Rivers stands out amongst the Pretty Little Liars cast. Here's a look at 5 things that are great about him (& 5 that aren't).
A big part of teen drama television shows is the romance, and fans can never get enough of the juicy scenes and stories involving love interests! While Pretty Little Liars featured several notable boyfriends and girlfriends over the years, there was one who seemed to stand out from the rest: Caleb Rivers.
He was the bad boy in town, and Hanna fell hard for him. It was a good thing he was around, too, because the girls may have not defeated A without his hacking knowledge! That being said, it is time to go over Caleb’s five best and five worst traits.
10 Best: A Computer Whiz
As mentioned, he was a computer whiz and a hacking genius. When he first showed up in Rosewood, he had a little side gig of fixing phones and such, and as the story progressed, he used his technological knowledge to help take down A. He was super handy!
9 Worst: Didn’t Seem Bothered By Some Illegal Actions
Okay, so not everything Caleb did with gadgets was technically legal, and he didn’t really seem to mind that. Sure, Hanna shoplifted, and all the girls told lie after lie, but he was breaking into systems and tracking people and doing some major stuff!
It was helpful, but it was not exactly morally sound… which did not always bother this character, as he saw it as a task for the greater good.
8 Best: Bad Boy Vibes
Caleb was the new kid in school, with his side business, his shaggy hair, his beanie… He was a total bad boy, and that appealed to Han! Everyone has their type, but many fans could agree that this character and his overall vibe were a wonderful addition to the show. Furthermore, many people on the series were into this idea, as well, since Caleb dated and kissed a few of them.
7 Worst: Rough Past
Part of his rough exterior was due to his rough past; he was with a foster family in Rosewood, he didn’t have the best past, and his family was not always around or not present at all.
From living in the school and struggling to find his next meal to turning to illegal activities in order to make some extra cash, Caleb did not always have the easiest time.
6 Best: Fierce Lover
One thing was for sure, though: Caleb Rivers was a fierce lover. Once he let someone into his life and felt that they truly got him and liked him, he was loyal and real. He would do anything for them. His love life, his relationship with the other boyfriends on the show, his eventual involvement with his family… All of these interactions showcased that Caleb was a caring individual at one point or another.
5 Worst: Ended Up In Dangerous Situations
Due to how much he cared for people, he sometimes ended up in dangerous situations. Of course, Rosewood was not an average town, and everyone dealt with scary stuff. But Caleb, more than others, seemed to leap and act and face danger head-on, all to try and save the day.
It was admirable, but it was not always so smart of him.
4 Best: Let Those Close To Him Know How Much He Cared
On a similar note, Caleb may have just seemed like this young guy who wore baggy, dark clothes, and who hacked into computer systems, but he had a sensitive side. He was not afraid to let those who were close to him know how much he cared for them.
An obvious example is how he was with Hanna, but this trait was seen in other relationships, as well, such as those with Ashley, Hanna’s friends, and Spencer.
3 Worst: Took Awhile To Open Up/Let People In
While seeing that soft and sweet side of Caleb was always nice, it did not come quickly or easily. He did have a tough exterior. He had been hurt in the past. He did have some trust issues. And there was A out there, running everything as often as possible.
Therefore, Caleb took a while to really open up to people, and it took a while for him to let people in, too.
2 Best: Was A Provider
Over the course of seven seasons, all of the characters on PLL changed and grew. It was especially neat to see Caleb’s growth, as he became a young man, a professional, a husband, and a provider.
He was responsible. He wanted to create the best life for his growing family. And he did whatever it took to make that happen.
1 Worst: Wouldn’t Take No For An Answer
He could be stubborn, though, and there were several scenes that showed a defiance in this character. Some may say that translated to him being stuck in his ways or disrespectful. On the other hand, though, it showed that he would not give up on his dreams or on his loved ones!
