Jane the Virgin's Gina Rodriguez Cast In New Amazon Thriller Show
Sarah Parker Gina Rodriguez will play the lead in Last Known Position, Amazon's upcoming sci-fi aviation thriller based on QCode's podcast of the same name.
Gina Rodriguez has been cast to play the lead in Amazon Prime's upcoming Last Known Position TV show. Rodriguez rose to fame with her role as the eponymous Jane Villanueva in The CW's hit satirical dramedy, Jane the Virgin, which also earned her a Golden Globe. Since Jane the Virgin ended, Rodriguez has appeared in several prominent films like Someone Great, Awake, and Scoob!. On the TV side, the actress most notably produced and starred in the Disney+ series, Diary of a Future President. In the upcoming 2022-2023 TV season, Rodriguez is also set to lead ABC's new comedy, Not Dead Yet, and now the actress has added another feather to her cap.
As reported by Deadline, Gina Rodriguez has signed to play the lead in Last Known Position, Amazon's missing plane thriller series based on the QCode mystery podcast of the same name. In the podcast, a large, modern commercial jet disappears during its first flight ever over the Pacific. And as investigators probe into the incident, they find signs of the presence of a mysterious creature in the ocean. Luke Passmore wrote the original podcast and will executive produce the show alongside Rodriguez, with QCode, Automatik, and I Can and Will producing. There is no word on what character Rodriguez would play in the new series, nor has it been indicated if the podcast voice actors would also star.
With an enterprising premise, an A-listed lead star, and beloved source material, Last Known Position sure has the perfect recipe for success. Lately, QCode's podcasts have drawn attention within the TV and film industry, with many like Dirty Diana, Carrier, and The Left Right Game being picked for a movie or series adaptation. With this newfound interest in the network's podcasts, it seems that all eyes will be on Last Known Position once it commences development. Of course, Rodriguez's involvement is a good sign for the show's future, but more details will become clear once the Amazon thriller show finalizes its story and cast.
