Mike Minor's 10 Best Roles (Ranked By IMDb Score)
Matthew Barrera For a number of decades, Mike Minor was a fixture of the soap opera scene. Here are Minor's best roles, ranked by IMDb.
Mike Minor was a great television and theatre actor as well as a skilled singer. As the son of television producer Don Fedderson, Minor took to the screen naturally and is best known for his role as Steve Elliott in the sitcom universe of The Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction.
In February of 2016, Minor passed away at the age of 75. In addition to his well-known work in the sitcom circuit, Minor was on several soap operas and dramas throughout his career. His handsome looks and talent will not be forgotten. Here are Minor's ten best roles on screen, according to IMDb.
10 Norman Garrison (As the World Turns) - 6.0
As the World Turns is a soap opera that ran from 1956 to 2010. The show centered on wealthy families in fictional Oakdale, Illinois, and on such a long and established series, more than one family was naturally featured.
In 1975, Mike Minor played Norman Garrison, one of Sandy's many husbands. While Sandy would last over a decade, Norman would not make it out of 1975 alive.
9 Lance (Once Again) - 6.1
Mike Minor did another TV movie in 1987 called Once Again, although the movie seems to have fallen off the radar.
IMDb's synopsis notes that the protagonist is an "aging rocker" who returns to New Jersey for his father's wedding; once there, he meets a nine-year-old playing the piano in his father's apartment and also experiences something of a shock.
8 Clark (The Millionaire) - 6.6
Minor had a small role in the 1978 television movie called The Millionaire. The film is known as a revival of the TV series by the same name which ran from 1955-1960.
The story is about a millionaire who gives a million dollars to various strangers, with the film then showing how that money impacts the strangers' lives.
7 Brandon Kingsley (All My Children) - 6.6
All My Children is known by some as the soap of Susan Lucci, and it ran for over forty years. Mike Minor guest-starred on eleven episodes in 1981 and one episode in 1982 as Brandon Kingsley.
He reprised this role years later in 2005. Minor's character, Brandon, was a love interest for Lucci's character, Erica. The two met when Brandon took on Erica as a model for a cosmetics line he was planning to launch. A business relationship turned into a romantic one, which proved to be a bit of a problem for Brandon's wife.
6 Dr. Royal Dunning (Another World) - 6.8
Mike Minor stepped into the role of Dr. Royal Dunning on Another World in 1983 and '84. The drama ran for thirty-five years, debuting in 1964 and coming to an end in 1999.
A fansite for the program has minimal descriptive information for Dr. Royal Dunning, who was only a minor character in Another World. However, it does note, "Killed by Emily Benson (RIP). Sold babies illegally." Interesting.
5 Various Roles (My Three Sons) - 7.0
According to IMDb, Mike Minor continued his creative streak and was cast in eight different roles on My Three Sons. The popular comedy was on from 1960 to 1972 and was about a widower raising his three sons, with a little help, of course.
Minor's first guest role on the show was in 1962, and his last was in 1971. The executive producer of the series was Mike Minor's father, Don Fedderson.
4 Steve Elliot (Petticoat Junction) - 7.0
It was not uncommon for television actors to appear in more than one role in sitcoms in the 1960s (as evidenced with Minor on The Beverly Hillbillies). Minor's role as Steve Elliott began in 1966 on Petticoat Junction, but first, in 1964, he played a young man named Dan Plout who is briefly engaged to Billie Jo Bradley.
After the one and only appearance of the Dan Plout character, Minor settled into his role as Steve Elliot, Betty Jo Bradley's love interest. For those who are not familiar with Petticoat Junction or Green Acres, these shows are set in the fictional country town of Hooterville. Billie Jo, Betty Jo, and Bobby Jo Bradley are the daughters of Kate Bradley, the owner of a hotel called The Shady Rest.
Steve Elliott first entered the show when he was distracted by the three Bradley daughters' routine swim in the water tower. Steve and Betty Jo got married on the show, and Mike Minor and Linda Kaye then married (and divorced) in real life. While Minor wore a lot of hats on the CBS rural comedies, the sister characters have him beat. While Linda Kaye Henning played her character for the entire series, Bobbie Jo was played by two different actresses, and Billie Jo was played by three.
3 Steve Elliot (The Beverly Hillbillies) - 7.1
Minor's most well-known role is Steve Elliot. He played this role on both The Beverly Hillbillies and its spin-off, Petticoat Junction. According to IMDb, Minor never appeared in this role on Petticoat Junction's spin-off, Green Acres.
The three CBS shows were created by Paul Henning. Henning's daughter, Linda Kaye, played Betty Jo Bradley on all three sitcoms. After Petticoat Junction ended, Minor played two other roles on The Beverly Hillbillies: Dick Bremerkamp and Robert Audubon Getty Crockett.
2 Lennie Small (The Edge of Night) - 7.9
Mike Minor appeared as Lennie Small in 1972 on The Edge of Night. The program was a long-running soap, beginning in 1956 and ending in 1984.
The series featured a number of actors in walk-on roles, like Héctor Elizondo. Other notable actors, like Lori Loughlin, had pretty long tenures at different points in the show's run.
1 Various Roles (The Lieutenant) - 8.3
Mike Minor's highest-rated work goes to an hour drama called The Lieutenant. The show only lasted from 1963 to 1964, and it was about a US Marine Lieutenant and his Camp Pendleton comrades.
Minor plays a radio operator in the first year of the show and returns in the second year to play Lieutenant Ernest Ames. These were not his first television roles, but they were still early in his career.
