Red Dead Redemption 3 is a game many are hoping for, but no announcements for it have been made. Sadly, it seems fans will be waiting for a long time.

Several major game releases have been announced thus far in 2022, but Red Dead Redemption 3 is not among the list of upcoming titles. The previous game in the series is one of Rockstar's biggest successes, but no indication has been made yet for an RDR3 release date. However, given what is known about Rockstar's current projects, it's not likely that a new Red Dead Redemption will be coming anytime soon.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most lauded games that Rockstar has released, earning several accolades across the gaming industry. The game has become a widely beloved classic, and protagonist Arthur Morgan easily surpasses every GTA protagonist, being hailed as one of gaming's best leads. A sequel to a game so lauded would likely be highly celebrated. However, there has been little buzz about a potential release date for Red Dead Redemption 3, while other projects have been talked about instead.

One thing that casts doubt on Red Dead Redemption 3 coming in the near future is the recent announcement of Grand Theft Auto 6. GTA 6 is a title that has been anticipated for years, and the announcement was guaranteed to draw attention from fans. It is not unfair to think that most of Rockstar's attention for the near future will be focused on GTA 6, and making sure that its launch goes smoothly. With even a GTA 6 trailer not expected in 2022, it's clear that it will be a long time before Red Dead Redemption 3 will be a priority for the company. It will take until at least after GTA 6's release, and even then it may take longer if RDR3 needs any amount of significant fixes after release.

Rockstar's Focus Is Currently On GTA 6, Not Red Dead Redemption 3

The fact that Red Dead Online and GTA Online are still being actively supported brings more doubt that RDR3 will be coming anytime soon. Both games have been continuing to receive regular updates, indicating that between these two games as well as the development of GTA 6, Rockstar may not be able to focus on Red Dead Redemption 3 at the moment without spreading devs too thin. Although Red Dead Online's updates have been criticized, the fact that Rockstar continues to work on them indicates some level of investment in the game. That may lead to an RDR3 release date somewhere down the line, but Rockstar may be too busy to focus on it just yet.

If Rockstar is turning its attention elsewhere, then the question remains of when a release date for Red Dead Redemption 3 will be announced. It's very likely that the game will come along eventually. There is still a lot that Rockstar can do with the Red Dead world, and it would be a shame if the studio simply let the setting go to waste. Whether or not the game is a sequel, or if RDR3 is another prequel, the announcement alone would excite fans. If it's going to happen, the best assumption for when it would come up is when Rockstar has no other major announcements. With Rockstar taking so long to announce GTA 6 in the first place, it seems most likely that it will be at least another couple of years before any concrete RDR3 news comes out.

Even though Grand Theft Auto is Rockstar's flagship series, Red Dead Redemption 2 may have passed it in terms of critical reception. The wild west adventure showed Rockstar's true potential when it comes to making games, and a sequel would be warranted. However, as it stands, it will be a while before any release date for Red Dead Redemption 3 will be discussed.
