10 Most Powerful Variants Of Green Goblin In Marvel Comics
Isabella Ramos A version of Green Goblin will appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but what are the most powerful versions of the character in Marvel comics?
The first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home contained a giant tease for the Green Goblin, with the suggestion this could be the Willem Dafoe version of the character from the 2001 Sam Raimi film. He could be potentially another iteration though, and there are many powerful variants of Green Goblin in the comics to choose from.
The Green Goblin has become one of the greatest villains of Spider-Man in his nearly sixty years of adventures in Marvel Comics. Multiple versions of Spider-Man have faced off against many different Green Goblins in continuity and beyond, some of whom are more powerful and threatening than others.
10 Two-Faced Goblin
The Two-Faced Goblin features essentially the same abilities as the original Norman Osborn Green Goblin introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #14, who relied mostly on his advanced technology. This version combines his greed and inventiveness with the instability of Harvey Dent from DC Comics to form an entirely new villain.
Two-Faced Goblin originated in the Amalgam Comics crossover between Marvel and DC in the 90s, and he seeks vengeance against Dark Claw, a version of Batman and Wolverine, for his injury.
9 Harry Osborn
After Norman Osborn was killed in the comics following the heartbreaking death of Gwen Stacy, his son Harry took on the mantle of Green Goblin. As the Goblin, Harry had no superpowers of his own but did rely heavily on his advanced intellect.
He was also a master manipulator, fooling everyone including his friends Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson into thinking he was a good guy until he turned on them. Harry would later gain extraordinary demonic powers, but as the supervillain Kindred.
8 Marvel Noir
The Marvel Noir version of the Green Goblin has no superpowers but was defined by his goblin-like appearance. In this alternate reality, Norman Osborn is born with a condition that gives him a reptile-like appearance. This leads him to take up work in a circus as an object of cruel fascination.
In the story, he tries to leverage his fearsome visage and ambitions into becoming the leader of the criminal underworld in New York City, but he faces a lot of competition from other major Spider-Man villains.
7 Six Men Of Sinestry
Norman Osborne is the Green Goblin on Earth-803, home of Lady Spider, an alternate version of Spider-Woman.
Brilliant and ambitious, he had no powers but wasn't limited by the technological standards of his day in this steampunk universe. He flew on a steam-powered jet pack and used versions of Pumpkin Bombs. He joined with the Six Men of Sinestry, one of the best versions of the Sinister Six in the comics, to take on Lady Spider in the Spider-Verse comics from 2014.
6 1602
The 1602 version of Green Goblin lacks the technological capability of others, but he's no less powerful. Norman Osborne from Earth-311 took a special formula and he turned into a literal goblin, with wings that allowed him to fly. This made him one of the most naturally powerful Goblins.
In appearance, he looked somewhat similar to Man-Bat, one of Batman's best comic villains. Osborn is a key villain in the 1602 mini-series, driven as always by curiosity and greed. It ultimately leads to his death in a battle against the 1602 Spider-Man, Peter Parquagh.
5 2099
Jennifer D'Angelo is the Green Goblin in the 2099 universe, one of the darkest future Marvel timelines in the comics. She has no superpowers of her own but is able to fly and endure a lot of stress in her very advanced Goblin armor. She is able to fly and is resistant to most physical attacks.
The 2099 suit also had other advantages the original Green Goblin didn't have. She could turn invisible and also induce holographic hallucinations in others, confusing them as she attacked from above.
4 House Of M (Peter Parker)
The Green Goblin of House Of M is one of the most powerful because he's actually Peter Parker. This version has all of the powers and abilities of Spider-Man, making him more powerful than a number of versions of Green Goblin.
In the reality created by the extremely powerful Scarlet Witch, Peter Parker's life is pretty great. He's married to Gwen Stacy, his Uncle Ben never died, and he works for J. Jonah Jameson. But he sabotages his life as the Goblin, out of guilt over the realization that none of it is real.
3 MC2 Normie Osborn
Normie Osborn is the grandson of Norman in the MC2 universe home to Spider-Girl, AKA May Parker. He started out with no superpowers, and only the legacy of the Green Goblin to wield against Spider-Girl. He would later bond with the Venom symbiote, giving him all the powers of the alien creature.
Super-strong, fast, and resistant to most physical attacks, the Venom Green Goblin also inherited all the powers of Spider-Man that the symbiote originally copied in the past. That made Normie very powerful, and he even gained more powers when the symbiote tried to also bond with Spider-Girl.
2 Ultimate Green Goblin
The Ultimate Green Goblin is one of the strongest and most fearsome versions of the character. He ingested a great deal of OZ formula, Earth-1610's take on the Goblin formula that gave Osborn strength and power in later versions.
The Ultimate Green Goblin was transformed into a hulking brute with razor-sharp claws. The most frightening side effect of the formula is that it seems Osborn can't die. He returns from death and continues to evolve into more powerful and terrifying forms.
1 Red Goblin
The Red Goblin is among the most powerful variants of the Green Goblin, as he combines the dangerous intellect of Norman Osborn with the Carnage symbiote. Red Goblin Carnage has superhuman strength, speed, and endurance.
Unfortunately for Spider-Man, he's blind to Peter Parker's Spider-Sense and also is immune to any form of sonic attack, which proved effective against Venom. Combined with the evil nature of Norman Osborn, the symbiote was virtually unstoppable.
