The 10 Most Memorable Quotes From The Mandalorian Season 1
Daniel Lopez In the Star Wars series The Mandalorian, there are at least 10 unforgettable quotes from the show’s first season that resonate with fans.
After the sequel trilogy seemingly irreparably divided the Star Wars fan base, Jon Favreau brought them back together with the spacefaring adventures of The Mandalorian. With a perfect balance of the fresh and the familiar and a captivating cast of characters, The Mandalorian is arguably Disney’s greatest Star Wars project to date.
Like all the best Star Wars media, The Mandalorian is filled with quotable lines. From repeated catchphrases like, “This is the way,” and “I have spoken,” to one-off gags like, “Come on, baby, do the magic hand thing,” there are a bunch of unforgettable quotes from the show’s first season.
10 “I Can Bring You In Warm, Or I Can Bring You In Cold.”
The opening scene of the pilot episode of The Mandalorian introduces the title character beautifully. He strides into a bar and effortlessly fights a bunch of hardened criminals in there before taking in his bounty. But the bounty objects.
With one hand on his holstered blaster, Mando says, “I can bring you in warm, or I can bring you in cold.” In a later episode, a fellow bounty hunter uses this line on Mando and he snaps back, “That’s my line.”
9 “Such A Large Bounty For Such A Small Package.”
One of the greatest marketing tricks that Disney ever pulled was leaving The Mandalorian’s cutest character out of all the trailers. When Mando found his 50-year-old bounty in a floating crib and a tiny green hand pulled away his blanket to reveal an adorable infant of Yoda’s species, an icon was born.
The word-of-mouth marketing generated by the “Baby Yoda” phenomenon did more for the show’s popularity that any amount of traditional advertising ever could.
8 “They All Hate You, Mando, Because You’re A Legend.”
The first few episodes of The Mandalorian make the titular bounty hunter’s legendary prowess among his professional community crystal clear. The Client notes that he’s very expensive, but is also considered to be the best in the business.
Greef Karga, the head of the guild, tells Mando not to worry about his colleagues’ jealousy: “They all hate you, Mando, because you’re a legend.”
7 “I Have Spoken.”
Mando finds Kuiil, an Ugnaught played brilliantly by Nick Nolte, living in solitude after years of serving the Empire in The Mandalorian’s first season. First, he helps Mando track down Grogu. Then, he helps him protect the kid from the Imperial forces.
After everything he says, Kuiil adds, “I have spoken.” This is one of The Mandalorian’s most applicable quotes. It can be tagged on the end of any statement and it cuts off any follow-up questions.
6 “I’m A Mandalorian. Weapons Are A Part Of My Religion.”
After the Skywalker saga dedicated a lot of time to exploring the Jedi’s beliefs and tenets, The Mandalorian has turned its sights to a different samurai-esque culture in the Star Wars universe.
The Mandalorians have their own moral code, their own homeworld (or at least they did), and their own signature weapons, typically made of beskar steel that can deflect a lightsaber blade.
5 “I Am Fulfilling My Base Function: To Nurse And Protect.”
At the beginning of the series, the Mandalorian doesn’t trust droids. He reluctantly teams up with IG-11 to take out the mercenaries protecting Grogu before blowing his head off when he tries to kill the kid. Later, Kuiil reprograms IG-11 to look after the baby.
He offers to walk through the river of lava and self-destructs at the end of the tunnel to wipe out the Stormtroopers bearing down on them. This sacrifice inspires Mando to have a change of heart about droids.
4 “I Would Like To See The Baby.”
In the first season of The Mandalorian, ahead of Moff Gideon’s debut, Werner Herzog played the Client, to whom Mando is supposed to bring the Child to be subjected to cloning experiments.
It was Herzog who inspired the producers to use practical effects to bring Grogu to life. When he found out they were considering using CGI to create the character, Herzog implored them to use a puppet, and the rest is history.
3 “Maybe He’s A Gungan. Is That Why Yousa Don’t Wanna Show Your Face?”
Mando joins a ragtag crew of criminals to break their friend out of jail in “Chapter 6: The Prisoner.” One of those criminals is Migs Mayfeld, played by Bill Burr, who knocked his performance out of the park and then did it again in season 2’s “Chapter 15: The Believer.”
One of Mayfeld’s defining characteristics is ball-busting, and Mando’s refusal to take off his helmet provides him with plenty of material. This line is one of the only references to the Gungans outside of the maligned prequel trilogy.
2 “Come On, Baby, Do The Magic Hand Thing!”
Greef Karga plots to kill Mando and kidnap Grogu on the back end of The Mandalorian’s first season, but changes his mind when Grogu uses the Force to save him from a fatal wound.
When they run afoul of more bad guys, Karga tells Grogu, “Come on, baby, do the magic hand thing!” Grogu doesn’t understand what Karga wants, so he just waves at him.
1 “This Is The Way.”
Easily the most-quoted catchphrase from The Mandalorian, “This is the way” is a credo for the titular religion. The “way” refers to the Way of the Mandalore, a code of ethics upheld by all Mandalorians. According to the Armorer, “When one chooses to walk the Way of the Mandalore, you are both hunter and prey.”
This is particularly true after Mando breaks the bounty hunter code to liberate Grogu, ensuring the Imperial Remnants would pursue him mercilessly until they got him back.
