The IV Judge is a feature that players can unlock in Pokémon BDSP. It allows players to check the stats and IVs of all of their Pokémon.

Finding the IV Judge in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will make it easier for players to create a competitive team. Most players won't notice anything about a Pokémon's IVs or EVs. In most casual playthroughs, these aren't necessary in order to beat the game and become Champion. Rather, a Pokémon having proper IVs and EVs is important for high-level competitive Pokémon battling. IVs stands for Individual Values and is one of the most complex aspects of the Pokémon series. Overall, players who have Pokémon with better IVs will have Pokémon with stronger stats. This means better Attack, Defense, and Speed across the board if done properly. Each Pokémon has its own IVs but players will need to wait until the postgame to check them.

Players will need to defeat the Elite Four and become the Champion of the Sinnoh region. Players can then get the National Dex in Diamond and Pearl, head over to Snowpoint City, and talk to the sailor in the port. This will bring the player to the Fight Area, a new location in the northern reaches within the region. In this location, players can participate in the game's Battle Tower for challenging fights, and where players can unlock the IV Judge Function.

Upon arriving at the Fight Area in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, head to the northeast and pass through the Battle Park and enter the Battle Tower. This is normally an area where players can battle up to seven trainers in a row. The best teams for the Battle Tower depend on if the player is running Singles or Doubles. Regardless, there will be a man to the right of the PC that the player needs to speak to. This will add the Judge Function to the player's PC.

How To Use The IV Judge in Pokémon BDSP

After selecting a PC, players can go to their Pokémon Boxes and choose the Pokémon they wish to check the IVs of. Hover over the Pokémon and press the Plus button to view its stats. It will bring up all of its possible stats and have a quote measurement to determine how good they are. These are what each quote means.

• No Good: The Pokémon has 0/31 IVs.
• Decent: The Pokémon has 1-10/31 IVs.
• Pretty Good: The Pokémon has 11-20/31 IVs.
• Very Good: The Pokémon has 21-29/31 IVs.
• Fantastic: The Pokémon has 30/31 IVs.
• Best: The Pokémon has 31/31 IVs.

There are different ways to influence a Pokémon's IVs in Pokémon BDSP but players should only focus on this if they plan on competitive battling. Pokémon BDSP doesn't have its own form of ranked mode so this is relocated to public or private-held tournaments. Regardless, most casual players won't have to worry about this. It's mainly for those looking to be the very best like no one ever was.
