The Emmy Award-winning actor Jason Sudeikis leads the cast of Apple TV+'s hit series as the perpetually positive football coach, Ted Lasso, which also includes Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Phil Dunster, Brett Goldstein, Nick Mohammed, Juno Temple, and Toheeb Jimoh. The series, which is based on several promos Sudeikis did for NBC Sports, follows the titular coach and his team of eccentric soccer players.

Soon after its premiere in 2020, the comedy series quickly caught on with audiences for its feel-good quality, though it later began to tackle some more serious topics such as Ted's divorce, his childhood trauma, and the effect they have on his mental health. Since season 2 ended on an intriguing cliffhanger, fans have eagerly been awaiting details about Ted Lasso season 3, which is currently filming but does not yet have a premiere date. Previously, Hunt teased a time jump for season 3 so it can coincide with the start of the Premier League's football season in August.

Now, the Ted Lasso multi-hyphenate has shared another tease for what fans can expect from season 3. Hunt, who plays Coach Beard on the series, says that season 3 will reveal more characters' origin stories, "I think we might see more of people’s origin stories in season three," he said. Hunt's comments were made at an SXSW panel attended by Deadline.

Though Hunt's comment appears to be meant more broadly, he specifically teased an origin story for Rebecca Welton and Rupert Mannion's relationship. Rebecca divorcing Rupert essentially serves as the impetus for the series given that she receives ownership of AFC Richmond during her settlement and initially hires Ted in order to tank the team and enact revenge against her cheating ex-husband. With the rivalry between Rebecca and Rupert's football clubs set to be the primary conflict of season 3 given his purchase of West Ham United and hiring of Nate as head coach, it would make sense for the show to backtrack and explore the origin of the couple's ill-fated marriage.

Like any great television series, Ted Lasso thrives because of its strong core of supporting characters. The show even controversially chose to dedicate an entire episode to Hunt's character in season 2, "Beard After Hours," which only featured Ted briefly during the final moments. Though Hunt specifically teased an origin story for Rebecca and Rupert, his comment does seem to indicate other supporting characters will be highlighted as well. Who those characters might be could become clearer as more details about Ted Lasso season 3 are revealed.
