The 2 Original Cast Members Who Are Not Italian Explained
Amelia Brooks Although it was originally perceived that the entire Jersey Shore cast was Italian, two roommates actually don't have any Italian blood in them.
When Jersey Shore first aired in 2009, the MTV show portrayed what it was like for a group of young Italian-Americans to live down the shore for an entire summer. With a majority of the cast being Italian, the show fed off of certain Italian stereotypes found in New Jersey. As the years went on and the cast became household names, some fans were shocked to find out that two of the roommates were not actually Italian, and that most of the cast is not even from New Jersey.
In fact, only Deena Cortese and Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola actually grew up in New Jersey, and the rest of the cast (excluding Pauly D) are originally from different parts of New York. When it comes to Pauly, he is the only roommate to originate in Rhode Island. Even though some of the cast members are still located in the tri-state area, many of them have since moved out of their hometowns.
While a majority of the cast is of at least half Italian descent, two Jersey Shore roommates do not have any Italian in their blood at all. Best friend duo, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Jenni "JWoww" Farley, are not actually Italian despite many viewers of the show assuming them to be. JWoww is actually part Spanish and part Irish. While her dad has been seen on the show in the past, JWoww rarely speaks about her mother. During their show Snooki & JWoww, JWoww briefly spoke about her mom's illness, explaining that she was put into an assisted living when JWoww was a young girl. It is assumed that the Irish descent is from her father's side of the family, while the Spanish descent may come from her mother's side.
On the other hand, Snooki was actually adopted as a baby. In 2018, Snooki shared a video on her YouTube channel explaining the details of her adoption. She was born in Santiago, Chile before being adopted into an Italian family as a baby. Snooki was just six months old when her parents flew to Chile to adopt her. She believes that she was "always meant to be" with her adoptive parents. Snooki admitted that although her technical nationality is Chilean, she grew up Italian as both of her parents are Italian. In the video, Snooki revealed that she rarely talks about her adoption because she never questioned what her birth parents may be like.
The only Jersey Shore cast members who are fully Italian-American are Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, Pauly D, Deena Cortese, and Vinny Guadagnino. This is no surprise as Pauly and Vinny tend to represent their Italian descent the most. Angelina Pivarnick is half Italian and half Polish. Sammi actually has Greek descent in her. Ronnie is both Italian and Puerto Rican.
