When Iron Man Fought Magneto, Who Actually Won?
Charlotte Adams Magneto should have been able to take Iron Man down with ease, but when the two fought, Tony Stark gave the X-Men a NEW Master of Magnetism.
Iron Man beat the X-Men's Magneto, in one of the most spectacular battles in the "Avengers Vs. X-Men" event. Back in 2012, the X-Men and the Avengers collided over the fate of the world. The Phoenix Force was coming to Earth; the mutants believed it to promise salvation, while the Avengers feared it would be the end of the world.
On the face of it, the Avengers were completely overmatched. Fortunately, Iron Man had been preparing for this battle. He'd developed the perfect way to beat psychics, neutralizing Emma Frost before she could shut the Avengers down. But then he came face-to-face with the one man who could safely be expected to beat him with ease - Magneto, the Master of Magnetism.
Again, though, Iron Man had come prepared. He'd constructed a special suit of armor designed to protect himself from Magneto, fashioned from carbon nanotubes rather than made from metal. The most Magneto could do was rattle the fillings in Tony Stark's teeth. Unfortunately, Tony had neglected to take account of one simple fact; he was confronting Magneto on an island made of metal.
Iron Man quickly moved on to the offensive, unleashing a swarm of neodymium high-grade magnets he hoped would disrupt Magneto's powers; he was stunned at the contemptuous ease with which Magneto disrupted these, and moved on to his most advanced strategy, abandoning over a thousand others he now figured were doomed to failure. Tony Stark had planted a chain of satellites around Jupiter, in order to tap into the gas giant's magnetic field, which is ten times stronger than Earth's; he used this to supercharge the Iron Man armor, boldly proclaiming himself the new Master of Magnetism. Unfortunately for Iron Man, he was only able to get in one shot, because Magneto recognized the energy he was using, and tore the chain of satellites from the sky.
Magneto decided to show just what he was capable of, by using the same strategy that had just failed for Stark. He reached out across the cosmos by sheer force of will, channeling more power from every planet within reach, striking Iron Man with punches that would have staggered Thor. But then, in the end, Magneto sensed it; a disruption in the magnetic fields, as an entire world was obliterated. He correctly realized this was the Phoenix Force, judging an entire world as it continued its inexorable journey towards Earth, and suddenly all of Magneto's confidence drained out of him. He allowed Iron Man to strike a knockabout blow - and so the battle came to an end, and the Master of Magnetism was officially beaten by Iron Man.
