Why did Mace Coronel leave the Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn cast? Comedy series Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn began airing on Nickelodeon back in 2014. The show focuses on the titular Harper kids — a set of pre-teen quadruplets played by Aidan Gallagher, Casey Simpson, Mace Coronel and Lizzy Greene — who have very different personalities and don’t always see eye to eye. Luckily, the quads’ parents Anne and Tom (played by Allison Munn and Brian Stepanek) are on hand to make sure the sibling rivalry doesn’t reach boiling point.
The Nickelodeon sitcom aired for four seasons and over that time boasted a host of famous guest appearances, from basketball players Candace Parker and Isaiah Thomas to Olympic ice-skating duo Maia and Alex Shibutani and dancer Maddie Ziegler. Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn also enjoyed crossovers with fellow Nickelodeon shows over its four-season run, such as its season 2 episode “Go Hollywood” which featured cameos from the likes of Jack Griffo from the cast of The Thundermans and Daniella Monet from Every Witch Way.
While Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn was a hit for Nickelodeon, the show wasn’t without its behind-the-scenes drama. In September 2017 Mace Coronel — who played third oldest Harper quadruplet Dicky — announced via his Instagram that he had left the sitcom. His departure happened during the filming of the show’s fourth season with five episodes left to shoot, so why did Mace Coronel leave the Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn cast so abruptly?
Why Mace Left Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn
According to Deadline, a spokesperson for Nickelodeon stated that the actor and network “mutually parted ways” and that Mace Coronel leaving the Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn cast was “a mutual decision.” Mace's Instagram post suggested the same, stating it was a “mutual agreement” and that he was looking to take on “serious and more diverse projects” while assuring Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn fans the show would continue without him. However, there were also rumors of tension and personality conflicts between the show’s young cast members at the time, although neither Nickelodeon, Mace nor any of his co-stars have ever addressed those rumors.
Unfortunately, it seemed that Mace Coronel’s departure spelled the end of Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn; alongside the School of Rock series, Nickelodeon canceled the show. The network aired the final Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn season 4 the following year and explained Mace’s absence in the episode “Quadcodile Dundee” by revealing his character Dicky had gone to Australia as a foreign exchange student.
Where Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn Are Now
After Mace's Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn exit and the show's swift cancellation, the series' four main actors went on to participate in a few other projects. Mace spent a season on the series he left Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn for, YouTube's Zoe Valentine, and also featured in the Netflix limited series Colin in Black & White. Dawn actress Lizzy Greene most notably plays Sophie Dixon on ABC's A Million Little Things, while Nicky actor Aidan Gallagher plays Number Five in Netflix's The Umbrella Academy. Casey Simpson, who played Ricky, was in a 2020 film called Timecrafters: The Treasure of Pirate's Cove. Although Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn's run on Nickelodeon was cut a bit short due to Mace Coronel's exit, all four of the young actors seem to be doing just fine.
